Corey sold us his LandCruiser 200 Series from Melbourne and had a deposit in his account that night. Roy's sale involved paperwork and his lenders. Here they are, with Robert, in their own words.
Within 10 minutes of my enquiry I was contacted by Dean. It all happened in less than an hour from the initial enquiry. I had a deposit in my bank account that night.
“They helped me through the transaction of a high value car and made it very pleasant. From paperwork and working with the lenders, to a personal touch.”
Roy Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 “I put my faith in the transaction going through while away on holidays and to his word Dean was honest, transparent and came through without any issues.”

What affects your Ranger's offer
Two Rangers with the same badge can be priced a long way apart. These are the things a valuer asks about, and what you can do about each one.
PX3 or next-gen
A Ranger built before mid-2022 is almost certainly the old PX3. From mid-2022 it is the next-gen. Buyers price them as different utes, so check the build date on the compliance plate.
Engine and grade
2.0 single-turbo, 2.0 bi-turbo or 3.0 V6 diesel, the Raptor's petrol V6 or the PHEV. After the grade, the engine is usually the next question a buyer asks.
Recall status
Buyers run the VIN for open recalls, including the 3.0 V6 diesel camshaft sprocket recall (REC-006341). Recall work is free at a Ford dealer. See checking recalls before you sell.
Accessories and towing gear
Tow bars, tub liners and quality canopies tend to hold value on a ute. Big lifts, engine tunes and non-compliant mods narrow the pool of buyers. More in accessories and resale value.
Kilometres and logbook
Lower kilometres for the year and a complete service record generally mean a stronger offer. Keep the invoices for tyres, brakes and any recall work.
Finance or a balloon owing
Finance does not change how we price the Ranger, but it decides your equity. We pay out your lender and pay you the rest. See selling a car under finance.

Selling a Ford Ranger: what to know
What buyers check on a 2021 or newer Ranger, which recalls to clear, and how finance and paperwork work when you sell.
What buyers check on a Ranger
Whoever buys your Ranger, a dealer or a private buyer, works through much the same list. Have the answers ready and the valuation call is quicker, and the inspection has no surprises.
- Build date and generation. The compliance plate and your purchase papers show whether it’s the PX3 or the next-gen.
- Engine and grade, matched to the VIN. A V6 Wildtrak and a 2.0 XLT are priced as different utes, even in the same year.
- Open recalls. Buyers and dealers run the VIN through the government recall site before they commit.
- Service history. Logbook stamps or dealer invoices, plus receipts for tyres, brakes and recall work.
- Tub, tow bar and underbody. Wear from loads, towing and off-road driving is high on any inspector’s list for a ute.
- Accessories and modifications. Receipts for the canopy, tow bar or bull bar, and the engineering certificate for any modification that needed one.
- Both keys, the owner’s manual and, on a PHEV, the charging cable.
- A payout letter from your lender if there’s finance owing.
PX3 or next-gen: why the generation matters
Rangers from 2021 come in two generations, and buyers treat them as two different utes. The PX3, the last version of the old Ranger, was sold until the middle of 2022. The next-generation Ranger reached Australian dealers from mid-2022, with a new body, a new interior and a revised engine line-up.
That makes “2022 Ranger” a loose description, because it could be either. The build date on the compliance plate settles it.
| What changed | PX3 (2021 to mid-2022) | Next-gen (mid-2022 on) |
|---|---|---|
| Diesel engines | 2.2 four-cylinder, 3.2 five-cylinder, 2.0 bi-turbo | 2.0 single-turbo, 2.0 bi-turbo, 3.0 V6 |
| Raptor | 2.0 bi-turbo diesel | 3.0 twin-turbo V6 petrol |
| Plug-in hybrid | Not offered | Ranger PHEV, from 2025 |
When you send your Ranger through, lead with the generation, then the grade and engine. It saves a round of questions. Our guide to selling a used Ranger has a side-by-side checklist for telling the two apart without the papers.
The grades and options that move the offer
An industry resale round-up names the XLT and Wildtrak as the Ranger’s high-volume grades. Plenty of buyers want one, but plenty are for sale, so kilometres, condition and history decide where yours lands. The Platinum and the limited runs, such as the Wildtrak X, Tremor and Wolftrak, each have their own following.
On a next-gen Ranger, the engine matters as much as the badge. The 3.0 V6 diesel makes 184kW and 600Nm, against 125kW and 405Nm for the 2.0 single-turbo, according to CarExpert. The 2.0 bi-turbo sat between them until the MY26.5 update dropped it.
Two Rangers sell to a different kind of buyer:
- Raptor. The next-gen Raptor uses a 3.0 twin-turbo V6 petrol engine making 292kW and 583Nm. The person who buys one wants that exact vehicle, and they look hard at the tyres, suspension and underbody.
- PHEV. Launched in 2025, it pairs a 2.3 EcoBoost petrol engine with a 75kW electric motor and an 11.8kWh battery. It makes 690Nm, the most of any production Ranger, with more than 45km of electric range on the WLTP test. Its buyers ask how it has been charged.
Accessories count too. Tow bars, tub liners and quality canopies are expected on a Ranger and tend to hold or add value. Suspension lifts, big aftermarket wheels, engine tunes and non-compliant modifications shrink the pool of buyers, because each one is something the next owner has to accept or undo. If you kept the factory parts, say so.
Recalls to clear before you sell
Recall work is free at a Ford dealer. Having it done, with the invoice in the service book, removes a question every buyer will ask. These are the notable recalls for 2021 and newer Rangers. The list isn’t complete, so check your VIN on the government’s vehicle recalls site as well.
| Recall | Rangers affected | The fault |
|---|---|---|
| REC-006341 | 3.0 V6 diesel, built 2022 to 2025 | The left camshaft sprocket may fracture and stall the engine |
| Park recall, 2023 | Built 2021 to 2023 | With a low battery, the transmission may engage Park below 6km/h |
| REC-006541 | Some 2022 utes | Follow-up work, needed even if an earlier campaign was done |
| Seatbelt recall, April 2023 | Built in 2022 | The driver’s seatbelt may be assembled incorrectly |
The V6 recall is the big one by numbers: the government notice covers 13,490 Rangers and Everests. The Park recall covered 4,841 Rangers and Everests, as Drive reported, and carsales reported the seatbelt recall covered 1,175 Rangers.
The follow-up recall is easy to miss. A 2022 Ranger with earlier recall work stamped in the book can still have an open recall, so a clean-looking history isn’t proof on its own. Our guide to checking for open recalls before you sell shows how to read the results and prove the work was done.
When to sell: MY26.5 and your kilometres
The MY26.5 Ranger went on order in December 2025, with deliveries from mid-2026, according to CarExpert. The 2.0 bi-turbo and the Sport grade were dropped, and the 2.0 single-turbo now pairs with the 10-speed automatic. The V6 diesel became available in the base XL, the Black Edition became a permanent grade and the Wolftrak arrived as a special edition. A 12-inch touchscreen is now on every model.
Your ute doesn’t change, but the comparison does. A buyer looking at a 2023 Sport or a bi-turbo Wildtrak now weighs it against a new range that offers neither. Changes to new-car line-ups and prices tend to move used prices, in either direction. There’s no published data yet on how MY26.5 has moved used Ranger values, so be wary of anyone quoting a rule of thumb.
Kilometres are the other clock. We buy Rangers 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less, and a ute that tows or works for a living can get there faster than a car. If yours is close, it’s worth a valuation before it crosses the line. If it’s already over, send it through anyway and we’ll tell you straight away if we can help.
Finance, balloons and paperwork
Plenty of Rangers are sold with money still owing, often on a loan with a balloon at the end. That doesn’t stop a sale. When you sell to us, we deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay any equity into your account. It usually takes 2 to 3 business days to settle.
A balloon is part of what you owe, so it’s included in the payout figure. Ask your lender for a payout letter before you accept any offer, and you’ll know your equity the moment the offer is made. If you owe more than the Ranger is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement. Our page on selling a car under finance walks through the numbers.
On the paperwork, we prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership. We’ll make sure your notice of disposal is done correctly. In most states it’s a quick online form. Usually no roadworthy or safety certificate is needed when you sell to us, but rules differ by state, and we confirm what applies to your ute on the call.
If the Ranger did work duty, the ATO says private cars are generally exempt from capital gains tax. If it was used in a business, talk to your accountant about GST before you sell.
Selling your Ranger to us
Once you know which Ranger you have and where its recalls stand, the choice is how much of the sale you want to handle yourself. A private sale means fielding recall questions, booking test drives and making sure the money is real before the keys go.
Selling to us starts with a genuine offer by phone from a licensed dealer, not an online estimate. The business is run by a valuer who has priced cars since 1992 and supplies dealerships nationwide. If you accept, we pay a deposit, often the same day, and inspect the Ranger at a time and place that suits you. The balance goes into your bank account, and we arrange collection anywhere in Australia only after you confirm the funds have cleared. No fees come out of the offer.
The valuation is free and there’s no obligation. You can see each step on how it works, start a free valuation or call 1800 73 55 73. Selling a different ute or a 4WD wagon? See selling your ute or 4WD.
Your money clears before your keys leave your hand
Private sales go wrong at the handover: fake bank transfers, cheques that bounce, cars driven off before the money lands. We turned the order around so that never happens to you.
“I was paid before Autohaus took possession of my car, which from my experience normally doesn’t happen.”
No strangers at your door
No test drives, no tyre-kickers, no one turning up and haggling on the driveway.
Deposit first
Accept our offer and we pay a deposit, often the same day, before anyone inspects the car.
Balance cleared before pickup
The rest is paid into your account. We collect only once you confirm it has cleared.

Questions about selling your Ranger
Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.
1800 73 55 73Do you buy the Ranger Raptor and the Ranger PHEV?
Yes, as long as it is 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less. On a Raptor, tell us about the tyres, suspension and any off-road use. On a PHEV, tell us how it has been charged and whether the charging cable is with it. The offer comes by phone from a licensed dealer.
Do you buy the older PX3 Ranger?
Yes, if it was built in 2021 or later and has 100,000 km or less. The PX3 was sold until the middle of 2022, so a 2021 or early 2022 Ranger may well be one. If yours is older or has more kilometres, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.
My Ranger has an open recall. Should I get it fixed before I sell?
If you can get a booking, yes. Recall work is free at a Ford dealer, and having it done removes a question every buyer asks. If you can't get it done in time, mention the open recall on the valuation call rather than leave it for the inspection.
Do you buy Rangers with a canopy, tray or lift kit?
Yes. Tell us what is fitted when you send the Ranger through, and add photos if you can. Quality accessories such as a canopy, tray, tow bar or bull bar are taken into account. For heavy modifications like big lifts or engine tunes, send a full list and we will tell you straight away if we can help.
My Ranger is a work ute. Is selling it any different?
The process is the same: offer, deposit, inspection, the balance into your account, then collection once your funds have cleared. If a business owns the ute, the sale is made in the business's name. The ATO says private cars are generally exempt from capital gains tax. If the ute was used in a business, talk to your accountant about GST.
What cars are you buying right now?
We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.
When do I get paid?
Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.
Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?
Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
