Selling a car in New South Wales

- In NSW, a change of ownership must be reported to Transport for NSW within 14 days of the sale, and Service NSW handles the transaction. When you sell to us, we prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer, so the car comes off your name properly.
- Roadworthy certificate
- Not needed. NSW has no roadworthy certificate for selling a car, and you do not need one to sell to a licensed dealer. The pink slip (eSafety check) is part of renewing registration on cars more than five years old, not part of a sale.
- Good to know
- Stamp duty and the transfer fee are the buyer's costs in NSW, so you pay neither when you sell to us. Any registration left on the car, including the CTP green slip, stays with the car.

Yes. Do I have to bring my car to you in Waterloo?
No. We price the car from its details and a few photos, the inspection happens at a time and place that suits you, and the car is collected from your driveway, garage or work car park. You never have to drive across Sydney to sell it.
Do I need a pink slip or roadworthy to sell my car in Sydney?
No. NSW has no roadworthy certificate for selling a car, and none is needed to sell to a licensed dealer. A pink slip (eSafety check) is only needed to renew registration on cars more than five years old, so there is nothing to book before you sell to us.
What should I do about my toll tag and toll account?
Before the car is collected, take the toll tag out of the car and remove the car's number plate from your toll account. That way any trips the next owner takes on Sydney's motorways, tunnels and the Harbour Bridge are not charged to you.
What cars are you buying right now?

When do I get paid?
Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.
Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?
Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
