What sellers say

Corey sold us his LandCruiser, Rahul his Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe, and Roy’s sale involved paperwork and his lenders. Different cars, the same process your Sportage would go through, in their own words.

Read every review in full

Within 10 minutes of my enquiry I was contacted by Dean. It all happened in less than an hour from the initial enquiry. I had a deposit in my bank account that night.

Corey K Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series VX, Melbourne VIC
  • “No haggling, or dealerships trying to get a lower price. In less than 3 business days I had an inspection completed, my car sold, with funds cleared in my bank account.”

Rahul A Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe, Sylvania NSW
  • “They helped me through the transaction of a high value car and made it very pleasant. From paperwork and working with the lenders, to a personal touch.”

    Roy Mercedes-Benz GLE 450

Sell Your Car Australia is run by Autohaus Australia Pty Ltd, so some reviews mention Autohaus Australia.

How selling your Sportage works

The order never changes: offer, deposit, inspection, the balance into your account, then collection once your funds have cleared.

  1. Tell us about your car

Make, model, year and kilometres. A minute on the form, or a quick call.

  2. Get a genuine offer

We call you, check a few details and make a cash offer. Accept it or walk away.

  3. Get paid

A deposit once you accept. The balance lands in your account after an inspection.

  4. We collect the car

Only after your funds have cleared, from your home or work, anywhere in Australia.

What affects your Sportage’s offer

An online estimate can’t read your service booklet or tell a GT-Line diesel from an SX petrol. These are the things a valuer asks about on a Sportage.

  • Warranty left

Kia’s warranty page says the balance of its 7-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty stays with the car for the next owner. Find your warranty start date in the service booklet so the time left is clear. More in does remaining warranty increase value.

  • Engine and gearbox

2.0 petrol, 1.6 turbo, diesel and hybrid Sportages are each compared with their own kind. Pre-facelift 1.6 turbos use a 7-speed dual-clutch and the mid-2025 facelift moved to an 8-speed auto, so give us the full variant name.

  • Hybrid and drive

The hybrid arrived in 2024 in SX and GT-Line, front-wheel drive only. AWD hybrids came with the facelift. Say which one you have so it is compared with the right cars.

  • Open recalls

Recall REC-005699 covers some Sportages built in 2022 and 2023: the instrument cluster may not show the seatbelt warning. Recall work is free at a Kia dealer. See how to check open recalls.

  • Grade

S, SX, SX+ and GT-Line differ in equipment and in the engines they came with. GT-Line on its own could mean a turbo-petrol, a diesel or a hybrid, so the grade and engine together describe your car.

  • Service history and kilometres

A booklet stamped on time and lower kilometres for the year mean a stronger offer. Kia’s capped price servicing runs for 7 years, so keep every invoice. More in does service history affect value.

Selling a Kia Sportage: what to know

What a buyer checks on a 2021-or-newer Sportage, the changes since launch that affect its value, and what to sort out before you sell.

Selling your Kia Sportage to us starts with the form on this page or a phone call: tell us the grade, engine and kilometres, and a licensed dealer makes you a genuine offer. If you accept, a deposit is often paid the same day, and your Sportage is collected only after you confirm the balance has cleared in your account.

Here is what a buyer looks at on a Sportage, how to tell which version you have, and what to sort out first.

Which Sportages we buy

We buy Sportages 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less, in every grade and with every engine. That takes in the current shape from its Australian launch in November 2021, including the hybrid and the mid-2025 facelift.

It also takes in some earlier cars. Because the current shape only arrived in November 2021, Sportages sold new earlier that year were the previous model. If yours is a 2021 car in the older shape, it still sits inside our buying range, so send it through with the build date and grade.

If your Sportage is older than 2021 or has passed 100,000 km, send it through anyway. We will tell you straight away if we can help.

Which version do you have?

The year on the rego papers isn’t the whole story. The current Sportage has changed twice in ways buyers care about, and the version decides which cars yours is compared with.

Version On sale from What to know
Launch model November 2021 S, SX, SX+ and GT-Line. 2.0 petrol (front-wheel drive, manual or auto), 1.6 turbo-petrol (AWD, 7-speed dual-clutch) and 2.0 diesel (AWD).
Hybrid 2024 1.6 turbo hybrid in SX and GT-Line, front-wheel drive only.
Facelift Mid-2025 New styling, manuals dropped, the 1.6 turbo moves to an 8-speed auto, AWD offered on the hybrid, diesel kept.

These details come from CarExpert’s coverage of the launch, the hybrid and the facelift. Your purchase contract or the selling dealer’s invoice normally spells out the exact variant, such as “GT-Line 1.6T AWD” or “SX Hybrid”. Have it in front of you when you call. Our guide to selling a used Kia Sportage goes through each engine and gearbox in more detail.

Two mix-ups come up often. A pre-facelift hybrid is front-wheel drive whatever the grade, so don’t describe it as AWD. And “GT-Line” on its own could mean a turbo-petrol, a diesel or a hybrid, so give the engine as well.

What a buyer checks on a Sportage

Any buyer, private or dealer, works through much the same list. Have the answers ready and the call is quicker.

  • Service booklet. Stamped on schedule, with invoices for anything done between services. Kia’s capped price servicing runs for 7 years, so the invoices show what was done and where.
  • Warranty start date. It’s in the service booklet, and it tells a buyer exactly how much factory cover is left.
  • Recall status. Proof that any recalls on the VIN have been done (more below).
  • Both keys. A missing key is one of the first things a buyer notices.
  • Wheels and tyres. Kerbed alloys and worn or mismatched tyres are easy to spot at an inspection.
  • Body and interior. Stone chips, scratches, marks on seats and trims, and any warning light on the dash.
  • How it drives. On a pre-facelift 1.6 turbo, a buyer notices how the dual-clutch gearbox moves off from a standstill and creeps in traffic. If anything feels wrong to you, have a Kia dealer look at it while the car is still under warranty.
  • Extras. A towbar, tint, roof racks or paint protection, and who fitted them.

Tell us about any damage or wear on the call, so the offer is made on the car as it is and the inspection holds no surprises.

Recalls and warranty to sort before you sell

Recall REC-005699, listed on the Australian Government’s vehicle recall site, covers some Sportages built in 2022 and 2023, along with some Kia Niro and Seltos models. The instrument cluster software may not show the seatbelt warning. Recall work is done free at a Kia dealer.

That recall may not be the only one on your car, so check your own VIN rather than relying on any list:

  1. Find your VIN on your rego papers.
  2. Search it at vehiclerecalls.gov.au.
  3. Book anything still open with a Kia dealer, and keep the job card.
  4. Put the recall paperwork in the glovebox with the service booklet.

Our guide to checking open recalls before you sell explains each step. If a recall can’t be booked in before you sell, tell us on the call.

On warranty, Kia’s warranty page lists 7 years with unlimited kilometres and says the balance “remains with the vehicle for the benefit of the vehicle’s new owner”. Roadside assistance starts at 12 months and can be extended to up to 8 years by servicing at an authorised Kia dealer. Because the kilometres are unlimited, the date is all that counts. Take a hypothetical Sportage delivered new in December 2021: its factory warranty runs to December 2028, and that cover carries on with the next owner.

When to sell your Sportage

There is no perfect month, but a few things work against waiting too long.

  • Warranty time. Every month you keep the car is a month less of factory cover for the next owner.
  • Kilometres. We buy up to 100,000 km. If you are getting close, selling before the odometer passes it keeps you inside our range. Our guide to selling a car before 100,000 km has more on that milestone.
  • The facelift. Since mid-2025, a launch-model Sportage has a newer version beside it on dealer lots. Yours is still compared with other pre-facelift cars of the same grade, engine, age and kilometres, so state the version clearly.
  • Your next car. If you are moving to a new Sportage or another SUV, get an outright offer for your current car before you talk trade-in. Then you can see what the trade figure is really worth.

Selling a Sportage with finance owing

Owing money on your Sportage doesn’t stop you selling it to us. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity. That usually takes 2 to 3 business days to settle.

Ask your lender for a payout figure before you call, so you can set it against our offer straight away. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement. Our page on selling a car under finance walks through the payout, equity and negative equity.

Paperwork and handover

We prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership. Usually no roadworthy or safety certificate is needed when you sell to us, but the rules differ by state, and we confirm what applies to your car on the call.

In most states the seller still records the sale with the state transport authority, often through a short online notice of disposal. In NSW, for example, Service NSW asks for the dealer’s licence number in place of a buyer’s licence, which for us is MD 077404. We walk you through your own state’s step on the call.

Have these ready:

  • Photo ID.
  • Your registration papers.
  • The service booklet and receipts.
  • Both keys.
  • Your bank details for the payment.
  • Your lender’s details and payout figure, if there is finance.

Before collection, take out your toll tag and remove the rego from your toll account, clear your phone from the infotainment system, and keep your insurance active until the car has gone.

How selling your Sportage to us works

Sell Your Car Australia is run by Autohaus Australia Pty Ltd, a NSW licensed motor dealer (MD 077404), and by a valuer who has priced cars since 1992 and supplies dealerships nationwide.

  1. Send your Sportage through on our free valuation form, or call 1800 73 55 73.
  2. We make you a genuine offer by phone, not an online estimate.
  3. If you accept, a deposit is often paid the same day.
  4. The inspection happens at a time and place that suits you.
  5. The balance is paid into your bank account.
  6. We arrange collection anywhere in Australia, only after you confirm the funds have cleared.

The valuation is free, there is no obligation, and no fees come out of the offer. Our how it works page has more on each step.

Your money clears before your keys leave your hand

Private sales go wrong at the handover: fake bank transfers, cheques that bounce, cars driven off before the money lands. We turned the order around so that never happens to you.

“I was paid before Autohaus took possession of my car, which from my experience normally doesn’t happen.”

  • No strangers at your door

No test drives, no tyre-kickers, no one turning up and haggling on the driveway.

  • Deposit first

Accept our offer and we pay a deposit, often the same day, before anyone inspects the car.

  • Balance cleared before pickup

The rest is paid into your account. We collect only once you confirm it has cleared.

  • A licensed dealer, on the record

Questions about selling your Sportage

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.

1800 73 55 73
Does the Kia warranty transfer when I sell my Sportage?

Yes. Kia’s warranty page says the balance of the 7-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty remains with the vehicle for the benefit of the new owner. Have your service booklet handy so the warranty start date and servicing record can be checked.

Do you buy the Sportage Hybrid?

Yes, in any grade, front-wheel drive or AWD, as long as it is 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less. Tell us it is the hybrid when you send it through, and whether it is the earlier car or the facelift, because hybrids are compared with other hybrids rather than the petrol or diesel versions.

My Sportage has the dual-clutch gearbox. Is it harder to sell?

Not in itself. Every pre-facelift 1.6 turbo Sportage has the 7-speed dual-clutch, so yours is compared with other cars like it, not with the facelift’s 8-speed auto. What matters is how it drives and whether it has been serviced on time. If anything feels wrong, have a Kia dealer look at it while the car is under warranty.

What if the seatbelt warning recall hasn’t been done?

You can still sell the car. Check your VIN at vehiclerecalls.gov.au, and if REC-005699 or any other recall is open, book it in with a Kia dealer, where recall work is free. If it can’t be done before you sell, tell us on the call so it isn’t a surprise at the inspection.

My Sportage is a 2021 in the older shape. Do you buy it?

Yes, if it has 100,000 km or less. The current Sportage only arrived in November 2021, so Sportages sold new earlier that year were the previous model, and they still sit inside our buying range. Tell us the build date, grade and engine when you send it through.

What cars are you buying right now?

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

When do I get paid?

Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.

Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?

Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
