These sellers sold us other cars through the same steps your ASX would go through: offer, deposit, inspection, payment, then collection. Here is what they said, in their own words.
Within 10 minutes of my enquiry I was contacted by Dean. It all happened in less than an hour from the initial enquiry. I had a deposit in my bank account that night.
“I had tried to sell it privately for some weeks but was only contacted by scammers and ridiculous offers. Dean offered me a fair price.”
Ray Murray Jaguar XE 2.0L (2015) “They helped me through the transaction of a high value car and made it very pleasant. From paperwork and working with the lenders, to a personal touch.”
Roy Mercedes-Benz GLE 450

What affects your ASX's value
No online calculator knows which ASX you have or how it has been looked after. These are the things a valuer looks at, and what you can do about each one.
Old or new ASX
The original ASX and the Renault-based ASX share a name and two grade names, LS and Exceed, but they are different cars. Give us the year and engine so we price the right one.
Engine: 2.0 or 2.4
On the original ASX, the GSR and Exceed use the 2.4-litre engine and most other grades the 2.0, though some 2021 versions had the 2.4 too. Grade and engine together set the starting point for your offer.
Grade and equipment
Upper grades add features such as blind-spot monitoring, a panoramic roof and premium audio. CarExpert reported the 2021 limited editions miss out on blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, so tell us exactly which badge you have.
Service history
On an ASX, where it was serviced can affect the warranty as well as buyer confidence. Keep every invoice. More in how service history affects your car's value.
Kilometres for the year
Lower kilometres for the year generally mean a stronger offer. We buy ASXs with 100,000 km or less. If yours has done more, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.
Condition
Kerb-marked alloys, scuffed bumper corners and worn seats are checked at inspection. Mention them on the call so the offer reflects them from the start. See why an offer can change after inspection.

Selling an ASX: what to know
Which ASX you have, what a buyer checks, how the warranty works and what to sort before you sell.
Two different cars have worn the ASX badge since 2021, and the first thing any buyer needs to know is which one yours is. After that, the offer comes down to grade, engine, kilometres, condition and a service record that shows where the car was looked after.
Which ASX do you have?
Cars sold new from 2021 to early 2025 are the last of the original ASX. CarExpert describes that design as facelifted in 2019, and every 2021 car has an 8-inch touchscreen. From late 2025, the ASX is a rebadged Renault Captur. CarExpert reported first customer deliveries were due to begin in November 2025.
| Detail | Original ASX (2021 to 2025) | New ASX (from late 2025) |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 2.0 or 2.4 petrol, non-turbo | 1.3 turbo petrol, 113kW and 270Nm |
| Gearbox | CVT auto, manual on the entry grade | Seven-speed dual-clutch auto |
| Grades | GS, ES, MR, LS, GSR, Exceed, plus limited editions | LS, Aspire, Exceed |
The overlap that catches people out is the grade names. LS and Exceed appear in both line-ups, so a “2023 ASX Exceed” and a “2026 ASX Exceed” are completely different cars. When you send your ASX through, give us the year, grade and engine. Your rego papers or purchase contract will usually show all three.
How the ASX changed from 2021 to 2025
The original ASX changed in small steps rather than big ones, but those steps affect what equipment your car has. These are the changes CarExpert reported:
| When | What changed |
|---|---|
| June 2021 | Four limited editions added: ES-L, ES Plus, MR Plus and XLS Plus |
| 2022 model year | Two extra rear USB ports, one USB-A and one USB-C, on every grade |
| May 2022 | The limited editions are no longer available |
| October 2023 | MY24 update: lane departure warning standard on ES and MR, new ES Street accessory pack |
| 17 January 2025 | CarExpert reports the original ASX will be axed over ADR 98/00 |
| 1 March 2025 | ADR 98/00 emergency braking requirements take effect |
The limited editions are worth a closer look if you own one. CarExpert reported they miss out on blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which the regular LS has. The XLS Plus, on the other hand, came with a panoramic roof, Rockford Fosgate audio, navigation and leather. Equipment is what a valuer prices, so the exact badge matters more than the family it belongs to.
The ES Street is an accessory pack on the ES rather than a separate grade. CarExpert lists black exterior trim, skid plates and decals among its parts. If yours has it, mention it on the call.
What a buyer checks on an ASX
Whether you sell privately or to a dealer, these are the questions that come up. Have the answers ready and the inspection holds fewer surprises.
- Year, grade and engine, matched to the VIN and the paperwork
- That it is clearly the original ASX or the new one, not left for the buyer to work out
- The service book or digital record, with invoices for each visit
- Which services were done at a Mitsubishi dealer, and which elsewhere
- The warranty: when it started and how much cover is left
- A VIN search on the government recall site, plus job cards for any recall work
- Both keys
- Tyres and alloys, including kerb marks
- Any warning lights on the dash, and how the car drives
- A payout letter from your lender if there is finance owing
None of this needs to be perfect before you call us. It just needs to be honest, so the offer we make on the phone is based on the car you actually have.
Service history and the warranty
On most cars, service history is about buyer confidence. On an ASX it is also about the warranty. CarExpert’s reviews describe Mitsubishi’s cover as up to 10 years or 200,000 km when the car is serviced within Mitsubishi’s dealer network. If it is serviced elsewhere, CarExpert says the warranty drops to five years or 100,000 km. Scheduled servicing is every 12 months or 15,000 km, whichever comes first.
That makes timing worth checking on the earliest cars in our range. A 2021 ASX serviced outside the network reaches the five-year mark during 2026, so on CarExpert’s description its cover may already have ended or be about to. A 2021 car with every service at a Mitsubishi dealer could still have years left.
Mitsubishi’s own terms decide what your car has. Before you quote a warranty to anyone, ask a Mitsubishi dealer to confirm the start date, the cover left and whether it passes to the next owner. Our guide to selling a used ASX works through an example of two otherwise identical cars.
Recalls and warning lights to sort first
Buyers and dealers run a VIN search on vehiclerecalls.gov.au as a matter of course, so do it before you list or call. Recalls follow the build date and fitted parts, not the badge, so check your own VIN rather than relying on what applies to another ASX.
If a recall is open, the work is done free by the manufacturer, usually through a Mitsubishi dealer. Book early, because some fixes need parts ordered. If it cannot be done before you sell, you can still sell: tell us on the valuation call so the offer is made with the full picture. Our guide to checking open recalls before you sell covers how to prove the work was done.
A warning light is different. It can point to anything from a sensor to a bigger fault, so mention it on the call rather than letting it turn up at inspection.
When to sell your ASX
The end of the original ASX does not stop you selling one, and there is no published data showing a “last of the line” premium for it. Anyone promising one is guessing. CarExpert reported the cheapest new ASX costs considerably more than the outgoing entry model did, which changes what a budget buyer compares, but we have not seen published data showing how far that has moved used prices.
What you can control is kilometres and warranty. Each year adds kilometres, and on a car serviced outside the network the five-year warranty mark arrives whatever you do. If you are already thinking about selling, it is worth getting an offer before either one passes.
Selling an ASX with finance owing
You can sell an ASX with money still owing. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. It usually takes 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the offer, the difference has to be covered before settlement. Ask your lender for a payout letter before the call so you know where you stand. More on selling a car under finance.
On paperwork, we prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership. We make sure your notice of disposal is done correctly; in most states it is a quick online form. Usually no roadworthy or safety certificate is needed when you sell to us, but rules differ by state, so we confirm what applies to your car on the call.
Selling your ASX to us
Selling to us means a genuine offer by phone from a licensed dealer run by a valuer who has priced cars since 1992. When you accept, we pay a deposit, often the same day, and inspect the ASX at a time and place that suits you. The balance goes into your bank account, and we collect the car only after you confirm the funds have cleared, anywhere in Australia. No fees come out of the offer. See how it works for each step. Our page on selling an SUV covers the other SUVs we buy.

Your money clears before your keys leave your hand
Private sales go wrong at the handover: fake bank transfers, cheques that bounce, cars driven off before the money lands. We turned the order around so that never happens to you.
“I was paid before Autohaus took possession of my car, which from my experience normally doesn’t happen.”
No strangers at your door
No test drives, no tyre-kickers, no one turning up and haggling on the driveway.
Deposit first
Accept our offer and we pay a deposit, often the same day, before anyone inspects the car.
Balance cleared before pickup
The rest is paid into your account. We collect only once you confirm it has cleared.

Questions about selling your ASX
Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.
1800 73 55 73Do you buy the new Renault-based ASX?
Yes. The new ASX, sold from late 2025 in LS, Aspire and Exceed grades, sits well inside our buying range of 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less. Tell us it is the new model with the 1.3 turbo, because the LS and Exceed names were also used on the original ASX.
Does it matter that the old ASX was discontinued?
Not for selling it. Mitsubishi stopped selling the original ASX new because it did not meet ADR 98/00, a design rule for emergency braking that took effect on 1 March 2025. That rule covers new cars being supplied, so your ASX can be registered, driven and sold as before.
My ASX is a 2021 limited edition. Does that change anything?
Tell us which one it is: ES-L, ES Plus, MR Plus or XLS Plus. Their equipment differs from the regular grades they sat beside, so the exact badge helps us price your car accurately on the call.
Will servicing outside Mitsubishi lower my offer?
A complete record from a qualified workshop still shows the car was looked after, so keep every invoice. Where it matters is the warranty: CarExpert reports Mitsubishi's cover drops from up to 10 years or 200,000 km to five years or 100,000 km if the car is serviced outside its network. Ask a Mitsubishi dealer what cover your car has left.
Do you buy manual ASXs?
Yes, if the car fits our buying range. The entry grade of the original ASX was offered with a manual gearbox, and we price manual and automatic cars on what they are. Tell us which one you have when you send it through.
What cars are you buying right now?
We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.
When do I get paid?
Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.
Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?
Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
