Corey sold us his LandCruiser 200 Series 4WD from Melbourne and had a deposit in his account that night. Spiros was paid before we took his car, and Roy's sale involved working with his lender. Here they are in their own words.
Within 10 minutes of my enquiry I was contacted by Dean. It all happened in less than an hour from the initial enquiry. I had a deposit in my bank account that night.
“I was paid before Autohaus took possession of my car, which from my experience normally doesn’t happen.”
Spiros Mercedes-Benz SLK 250 “They helped me through the transaction of a high value car and made it very pleasant. From paperwork and working with the lenders, to a personal touch.”

What affects your D-MAX’s value
No online estimate knows which D-MAX you have or how it has been used. These are the things a valuer asks about, and what you can do about each one before you call.
Factory warranty left
Isuzu says its 6-year/150,000 km warranty can be transferred to the next owner, so most 2021 or newer D-MAXs still have cover to hand over. Have the warranty start date from your service booklet ready. More in does remaining warranty increase a car’s value.
Recalls cleared
Large ECM software and fuel hose recalls cover many 2020 to 2024 D-MAXs. The fixes are free at Isuzu UTE dealers, and a dealer job card answers the question before a buyer asks it. See how to check for open recalls.
Grade, engine and drivetrain
An X-Terrain crew cab 4x4 and an SX single cab 4x2 are very different utes. Tell us the grade, the engine, the cab style, 4x2 or 4x4, and whether yours is before or after the 2024 facelift.
Tub, tray and accessories
A tub liner, towbar, quality canopy or well-built tray makes a D-MAX more useful to the next owner. Keep the receipts, because Isuzu’s warranty excludes trays and accessories. Big lifts and engine tunes tend to narrow the pool of buyers.
Logbook
A service and warranty booklet stamped on schedule, with receipts for tyres, brakes and any repairs, is the simplest proof that a working ute has been looked after.
Kilometres and work wear
Lower kilometres for the year help. So does being upfront about tow ball wear, underbody scrapes and tub damage, which the inspection will find anyway.

Selling a D-MAX: what to know
What buyers check on a current-generation D-MAX, how the range has changed since 2021, and what to sort out before you sell.
A buyer looking at your D-MAX asks the same three things every time: which grade and engine it is, how much factory warranty is left, and whether the recalls have been done. Have those answers ready and the rest of the sale gets much simpler.
What buyers check on a used D-MAX
Private buyers, trade-in managers and dealers all look at the same things. You can check most of them yourself in ten minutes.
- Exact spec. Grade, engine, cab style, 4x2 or 4x4, and auto or manual. “2022 D-MAX” isn’t enough to price a ute.
- Service and warranty booklet. Stamped on schedule, with the warranty start date recorded.
- Recall status. Proof that every recall listed against your VIN has been done.
- Tub or tray. Liner condition, dents, and what is fitted under a canopy or on a tray.
- Towing wear. Wear on the tow ball and hitch, and any trailer wiring or brake controller.
- Underbody. Scrapes, bent bash plates or dried mud in the chassis rails from off-road use.
- Tyres. Even wear across all four. Uneven wear can point to alignment or suspension problems.
- Both keys and a clean dash. Any warning light needs an explanation before inspection day.
Which D-MAX do you have?
Every D-MAX built from 2021 is the current generation, which went on sale in Australia in 2020 and shares its underpinnings with Mazda’s BT-50. It has changed enough since then that the year alone doesn’t tell a buyer what they are looking at.
| When | What changed |
|---|---|
| 2020 | Current-generation D-MAX on sale in Australia with the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel |
| 2023 | X-Rider sold as a limited edition |
| 2024 | Facelift: indicators moved into the headlight assembly, 8.0 or 9.0-inch touchscreens with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a new stereo camera and rear cross-traffic assist. X-Rider became a permanent grade. Engines unchanged |
| October 2025 | 25.5MY update: a 2.2-litre with an 8-speed auto replaced the 1.9-litre in SX and X-Rider, 3.5-tonne braked towing became standard, and the manual gearbox was dropped |
A 2024 D-MAX could be either version. Check the front indicators: on the facelift they sit inside the headlight assembly. Say which version you have on the call, because the same grade name covers different equipment either side of the update.
Grades, engines and options that matter
Since 2021 the range has included the SX, LS-M, X-Rider, LS-U, LS-U+ and X-Terrain. Isuzu now also lists the Blade, which comes only with the 3.0-litre. Your grade is on your original purchase paperwork if the badges don’t make it clear.
The engine matters as much as the badge:
| Engine | Outputs | Where you find it |
|---|---|---|
| 3.0-litre | 140kW/450Nm | Offered throughout, since 2020 |
| 1.9-litre | 110kW/350Nm | Some SX variants, until October 2025 |
| 2.2-litre | 120kW/400Nm, 8-speed auto | SX and X-Rider from October 2025 |
Towing is where buyers notice the difference. According to RACQ, the 1.9-litre was rated to tow 3,000 kg braked, while Isuzu now rates every D-MAX, 2.2-litre and 3.0-litre alike, at 3,500 kg. If you own a 1.9-litre SX, say so upfront, so nobody prices it as a 2.2.
Cab style and drivetrain come next. The D-MAX is sold as a single cab chassis, space cab chassis, crew cab chassis or crew cab ute, in 4x2 and 4x4. On a cab-chassis, the tray is part of the price, so know who built it and keep the receipt. Our guide to accessories, modifications and resale value explains which ones help and which ones narrow your market.
Recalls to clear before you sell
Four recalls on the Australian Government’s recall register cover large numbers of current-generation D-MAXs. The fix is done free at an Isuzu UTE dealer.
| Recall | Covers | The fault |
|---|---|---|
| REC-006052 | 149,048 D-MAX and MU-X built 2020 to 2024 | Engine control module software may cut engine speed and stall the engine |
| REC-005647 | 15,542 vehicles built 2020 to 2022 | Lower steering shaft bolt may lose torque |
| REC-006053 | 36,966 D-MAX built 2020 to 2023 | Fuel hose may chafe on the oil level gauge bracket, risking a fuel leak and fire |
| REC-005842 | 10,099 D-MAX built 2021 to 2023 | The same fuel hose chafing risk |
This isn’t a complete list, so run your own VIN at vehiclerecalls.gov.au. If you bought the ute second-hand, the recall letter may have gone to the first owner. An open recall doesn’t stop the sale, but tell us on the call so it isn’t a surprise at the inspection. Our guide to checking for open recalls before you sell walks through the search.
Warranty and when to sell
Isuzu UTE Australia’s warranty covers D-MAXs with a warranty start date on or after 1 January 2019 for 6 years or 150,000 km, whichever comes first, and it can be transferred to subsequent owners. Selling doesn’t restart the clock. If your warranty started in March 2022, the next owner gets cover to March 2028 or 150,000 km on the odometer.
Three things are worth weighing when you pick a time to sell:
- The warranty clock. Every month you wait leaves less factory cover to hand over. A D-MAX first sold in 2021 runs out of its six years during 2027.
- Kilometres. We buy utes 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less. A D-MAX doing work kilometres can cross that line quickly, so if you are getting close, see our guide to selling before 100,000 km.
- Recall work. If a recall is still open, book it in as soon as you decide to sell rather than the week of the sale, so the job card is ready when a buyer asks.
Selling a D-MAX with finance owing
You can sell a D-MAX that still has a loan on it. The lender usually has a security interest registered against the ute on the PPSR until the loan is paid in full, so the loan has to be paid out as part of the sale.
Start by asking your lender for a payout figure. Our guide to the car loan payout letter explains what it shows and how long it stays valid. When you sell to us, we deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity. That usually takes 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the ute is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement. Selling a car under finance covers the steps in more detail.
If the D-MAX is owned by a business or used for work, talk to your accountant about GST before you sell.
Paperwork and handover
Put these together before the inspection:
- Photo ID and the registration papers.
- The service and warranty booklet, plus any recall job cards.
- Both keys.
- Receipts for the tray, canopy, towbar or other accessories.
- Your bank details for the payment, and your loan details if there is finance.
We prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership. In most states you still lodge a notice of disposal yourself, and we make sure it is done correctly. It is usually a quick online form. When you sell to a licensed dealer, the private-sale roadworthy or safety certificate rule usually doesn’t apply, but rules differ by state, so we confirm what applies to your D-MAX on the call. Keep your insurance active until the ute has been collected, and take any toll tag out before it goes.
Getting an offer on your D-MAX
A D-MAX with warranty left, its recalls cleared and a stamped booklet is an easy ute to explain to any buyer. Our guide to selling a used Isuzu D-MAX goes further on warranty dates and recall paperwork.
If you would rather skip the ads and test drives, we buy D-MAXs 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less. Older or higher kilometres? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help. You get a genuine offer by phone from a licensed dealer, not an online estimate. Once you accept, a deposit is often paid the same day, the balance goes into your bank account after the inspection, and we collect the ute only after you confirm the funds have cleared. See how it works, then start with a free valuation or call 1800 73 55 73.
Your money clears before your keys leave your hand
Private sales go wrong at the handover: fake bank transfers, cheques that bounce, cars driven off before the money lands. We turned the order around so that never happens to you.
“I was paid before Autohaus took possession of my car, which from my experience normally doesn’t happen.”
No strangers at your door
No test drives, no tyre-kickers, no one turning up and haggling on the driveway.
Deposit first
Accept our offer and we pay a deposit, often the same day, before anyone inspects the car.
Balance cleared before pickup
The rest is paid into your account. We collect only once you confirm it has cleared.

Questions about selling your D-MAX
Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.
1800 73 55 73Do you buy D-MAX cab-chassis and space cab utes?
Yes. We buy single cab, space cab and crew cab D-MAXs, in 4x2 and 4x4, as long as they are 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less. Tell us what tray or body is fitted and who built it, and add photos if you can.
Does the Isuzu warranty pass to the next owner?
Isuzu UTE Australia says its 6-year/150,000 km warranty can be transferred to subsequent owners. The next owner gets whatever time and kilometres are left, not a fresh six years. Have the warranty start date from your service booklet ready when we call, and keep in mind that Isuzu excludes trays and accessories from that cover.
What if a recall hasn’t been done on my D-MAX?
It doesn’t stop you selling. Check your VIN at vehiclerecalls.gov.au, and if anything is still open, book it in with an Isuzu UTE dealer, where recall work is free. If you can’t get in before you want to sell, tell us on the call so it isn’t a surprise at the inspection.
Does it matter if my D-MAX has the 2.2-litre or the 3.0-litre?
Tell us which one yours has, because the engine shapes the offer along with the grade, cab, drivetrain, kilometres, condition and history. The 2.2-litre arrived in SX and X-Rider grades in October 2025 and replaced the 1.9-litre. The 3.0-litre has been offered right through.
My D-MAX has a canopy, lift kit or tune. Will you still buy it?
Send it through with a full list of what has been done and we will tell you straight away if we can help. Quality canopies, towbars and tub liners make a ute more useful to the next owner. Big lifts, oversized tyres and engine tunes narrow the pool of buyers, and some modifications need engineering certification to be road legal.
What cars are you buying right now?
We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.
When do I get paid?
Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.
Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?
Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
