What sellers say

These sellers had different cars, but the order is the same for your Mazda3: offer, deposit, inspection, payment into your account, then collection. Here is what they said, in their own words.

Read every review in full

Within 10 minutes of my enquiry I was contacted by Dean. It all happened in less than an hour from the initial enquiry. I had a deposit in my bank account that night.

Corey K Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series VX, Melbourne VIC
  • “I was paid before Autohaus took possession of my car, which from my experience normally doesn’t happen.”

    Spiros Mercedes-Benz SLK 250
  • “They helped me through the transaction of a high value car and made it very pleasant. From paperwork and working with the lenders, to a personal touch.”

Sell Your Car Australia is run by Autohaus Australia Pty Ltd, so some reviews mention Autohaus Australia.

How selling your Mazda3 works

Four steps. Your part takes about a minute, and you are paid before the car leaves your driveway.

  1. Tell us about your car

Make, model, year and kilometres. A minute on the form, or a quick call.

  2. Get a genuine offer

We call you, check a few details and make a cash offer. Accept it or walk away.

  3. Get paid

A deposit once you accept. The balance lands in your account after an inspection.

  4. We collect the car

Only after your funds have cleared, from your home or work, anywhere in Australia.

What affects your Mazda3's value

No online calculator knows how your Mazda3 has been looked after. These are the things a valuer looks at, and what you can do about each one.

  • Body, engine and grade

A G25 Astina and a G20 Pure of the same year are very different cars to a buyer. Tell us the full badge, hatch or sedan, and whether the Vision Technology package is fitted. Our Mazda3 guide explains each badge.

  • Kilometres

Lower kilometres for the year generally mean a stronger offer. We buy Mazda3s with 100,000 km or less. If yours has done more, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

  • Logbook servicing

A logbook stamped on time, with the invoices, is the simplest proof the car has been looked after. More in does service history affect car value.

  • Open recalls

Buyers and dealers search the VIN for open recalls. The work is free at a Mazda dealer, so book it before you sell and keep the job card. See checking open recalls before you sell.

  • Warranty left

Mazda's five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty transfers to the next owner. It runs from first registration or first retail sale, whichever came first, so know your date.

  • Keys and condition

Both keys, clean alloy wheels, tidy paint and no warning lights all help at inspection. Mention any damage upfront so the offer is made on the full picture.

Selling a Mazda3: what to know first

What a buyer checks on a 2021 or newer Mazda3, which range changes matter, and how the sale works when there is finance owing.

A 2021 or newer Mazda3 sells most smoothly when you can name the exact car, prove how it has been serviced and show that no recall is left open. Every buyer, private or trade, checks those three things first, so have them ready before you ask for an offer.

What a buyer checks on a used Mazda3

Careful buyers work through much the same list. Have the answers ready, whoever you sell to.

  • The full badge: body, engine, grade and gearbox, such as “G25 GT hatch, auto”, matched to the VIN.
  • Whether the optional Vision Technology package is fitted, on grades where it was an option.
  • A logbook with every service stamped on time, plus the invoices.
  • Your recall search result, and the job card for any recall work done.
  • The first registration date, so the buyer can work out how much factory warranty is left.
  • Every key the car came with.
  • Tyres, alloy wheels and kerb marks, and stone chips on the bonnet and bumper.
  • Your phone and accounts cleared from the infotainment system.

If you are not sure of your grade, the purchase contract or the service book usually names it. A Mazda dealer can also confirm it from the VIN.

Which Mazda3 changes since 2021 affect value

Two updates between 2021 and mid-2023 changed the Mazda3 range in ways a buyer notices. This timeline comes from CarExpert’s price-and-specs reports for each update.

When sold new What changed
2021 G20 Pure, Evolve and Touring; G25 Evolve, GT and Astina; X20 Astina. Manual or auto offered with every engine.
2022 update, on sale late 2021 G20e Evolve mild hybrid added; G25 Evolve became the G25 Evolve SP; manual dropped from the X20 Astina and from cars with the Vision Technology package.
From July 2023 Six grades: G20 Pure, Evolve and Touring; G25 Evolve SP, GT and Astina. Every manual and mild-hybrid version axed, so six-speed auto only.

The July 2023 cars also brought cylinder deactivation to the G20 engine, CarExpert reported. From the G20 Touring up, they gained wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging and USB-C ports.

If your car has them, say so. For the detail on every badge, including what the end of the mild hybrids means for an X20 or G20e owner, read our guide to selling a used Mazda3.

Grades and options that matter

Engine. The G20 is the 2.0-litre petrol and the G25 the 2.5-litre, which Mazda’s current Mazda3 page lists at 139kW and 252Nm. Buyers set a G25 against other G25s, not against a G20 Pure.

Grade. Mazda’s current Mazda3 page lists Bose speakers on the Astina only and heated seats from the GT up. Features like these separate one Mazda3 from another of the same year, which is why the full grade matters more than the year alone.

Vision Technology package. This was an option rather than a grade. CarExpert’s 2023 report listed it as optional on the G20 Pure, Evolve and Touring and the G25 Evolve SP. A buyer cannot tell from the badge whether it is fitted, so mention it if yours has it.

Gearbox. Manuals were sold new until mid-2023. A manual narrows the pool to people who drive one, but a buyer who wants a manual Mazda3 can now only find it used. No published data shows which way that moves the price.

Mild hybrids. The X20 Astina and G20e Evolve went with the July 2023 update. In October 2025, CarExpert reported that they were culled because of slow sales. Mazda Australia’s managing director said its engineering effort is going into EVs, hybrids and plug-in hybrids instead.

Recalls and warranty: sort them before you sell

Run your VIN rather than trusting a list. Recalls cover specific build ranges, so only a search on your VIN tells you about your car, and that is why we do not list Mazda3 recalls here.

  1. Find the 17-character VIN on your rego papers or on the plate inside the car.
  2. Search it on the Australian Government’s vehicle recalls site or on Mazda’s recall check.
  3. Book any open recall at a Mazda dealer, where the work is free, and keep the job card.

An open recall does not stop you selling. Tell the buyer up front, or mention it on the valuation call. Our guide to checking open recalls before you sell covers the rest.

Mazda backs new cars with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. Its warranty terms say cover starts on the earlier of first registration or first retail sale. They also say it transfers to later owners as recorded on the state register, so the balance goes with the car.

Here is a worked example with made-up dates. A Mazda3 first registered in March 2022 has factory cover until March 2027. Sell it in October 2026 and the next owner gets about five months of it. A car first registered in 2021 is at or past the end of its five years. Our guide on whether remaining warranty adds value explains how buyers weigh it.

When to sell your Mazda3

There is no perfect month, but a few dates are worth knowing.

  • The warranty end date. While factory cover remains, you can offer it to a buyer. Once it runs out, that selling point is gone.
  • The 100,000 km mark. We buy Mazda3s with 100,000 km or less. If yours is close, ask for an offer before it goes over. If it already has, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.
  • A major service coming up. Weigh the cost of the service against selling first. Our guide on whether to service or sell first walks through it.
  • The five-year mark in NSW. Transport for NSW requires a yearly safety check at rego renewal for most light vehicles more than five years old. A Mazda3 with a 2021 compliance plate reaches that point during 2026.

Selling a Mazda3 with finance owing

You can sell your Mazda3 while you still owe money on it. If you have a secured car loan, the lender’s interest usually shows on the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR), so the loan has to be paid out for the car to change hands free of finance.

Start by asking your lender for a payout figure. It is often different from the balance in your banking app, because it can include interest to the payout date and any early payout fees. Your equity is our offer minus that figure.

We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay any equity into your account. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the offer, that negative equity has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide. Our page on selling a car under finance explains each step.

Paperwork and handover

Have these ready: photo ID, the rego papers, the service logbook and receipts for recent work, your bank details for the payment, and your loan details if there is finance owing.

We prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership. We will also make sure your notice of disposal is done correctly. In most states it is a quick online form. Usually no roadworthy or safety certificate is needed when you sell to us. Rules differ by state, so we confirm what applies to your car on the call.

Before collection, take your e-tag out of the car and remove the plate from your toll account. Unpair your phone from the infotainment system. Mazda’s Mazda3 page lists Mazda Connected Services, run through the MyMazda app, so remove the car from your account if you use it. Our guide to wiping personal data from your car covers the rest. Keep your insurance active until the car has been collected.

Selling your Mazda3 to us

Once you know your badge, warranty date and recall status, the choice is how much of the sale you want to handle. A private sale means fielding questions, arranging test drives and making sure the money is real before the keys go.

Selling to us means a genuine offer by phone from a licensed dealer, MD 077404, not an online estimate. When you accept, we pay a deposit, often the same day, and inspect the car at a time and place that suits you. The balance goes into your bank account, and we collect the car only after you confirm the funds have cleared.

Collection is arranged by us, anywhere in Australia, and no fees come out of the offer. Our how it works page sets out each step. Have your service book and first registration date handy when you call 1800 73 55 73.

Your money clears before your keys leave your hand

Private sales go wrong at the handover: fake bank transfers, cheques that bounce, cars driven off before the money lands. We turned the order around so that never happens to you.

  • No strangers at your door

No test drives, no tyre-kickers, no one turning up and haggling on the driveway.

  • Deposit first

Accept our offer and we pay a deposit, often the same day, before anyone inspects the car.

  • Balance cleared before pickup

The rest is paid into your account. We collect only once you confirm it has cleared.

Questions about selling your Mazda3

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.

1800 73 55 73
Do you buy manual Mazda3s?

Yes. We buy Mazda3s with either gearbox, as long as they are 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less. Manuals were dropped from the new Mazda3 range in July 2023, so a manual in our range is one of the earlier cars. Tell us it is a manual when you send it through.

Do you buy the X20 and G20e mild-hybrid Mazda3?

Yes. The X20 Astina and G20e Evolve were sold new until the July 2023 update, and we buy them on the same terms as any other Mazda3. Give us the full badge so the offer is made on the right car.

Does it matter if my Mazda3 is a hatch or a sedan?

We buy both. Mazda has sold the hatch and sedan with the same grades and engines, so the body is one detail alongside grade, kilometres, condition and history. Tell us which one you have when you send it through.

Does Mazda's factory warranty pass to the next owner?

Yes. Mazda's warranty terms say the warranty is transferable to later owners, as recorded on the state register, and that it starts on the earlier of first registration or first retail sale. For cars bought new since 1 August 2018, the cover runs for five years with unlimited kilometres.

Can I sell my Mazda3 if it has an open recall?

Yes. An open recall does not stop a sale, and the recall stays with the car, so the next owner can still have it fixed. The work is free at a Mazda dealer, so book it if you have time, and mention any open recall on the valuation call.

What cars are you buying right now?

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

When do I get paid?

Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.

Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?

Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
