Sell your car in Port Augusta

Step 1 of 3: your car

Your car

We buy cars all over Port Augusta

If you want to sell your car in Port Augusta, we can buy it. We buy cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs in Port Augusta and Port Augusta West, in Stirling North and Davenport, and down the coast at Blanche Harbor and Miranda. We also buy from the towns that look to Port Augusta for shopping and services, from Quorn and Hawker in the Flinders Ranges to Woomera and Roxby Downs up the Stuart Highway.

Port Augusta sits where the Stuart, Eyre and Augusta highways meet, about 300 km from Adelaide. That distance makes no difference to us. We are a licensed motor dealer (MD 077404) buying cars Australia-wide, run by a valuer who has priced cars since 1992. You get a genuine offer by phone, not an online estimate. Accept it, and a deposit is often paid the same day. Start with a free valuation or see how it works.

The cars we buy in Port Augusta

This is ute and 4WD country. Vehicles here do long highway runs, outback roads and shifts at the mines and on stations, and many tow a camper or a boat on the weekend. We buy late-model utes of any make, including the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max. See what we look for in utes and 4WDs.

We also buy family SUVs and people movers like the Kia Carnival, plus sedans and hatches of any make. We are buying 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less. Highway kilometres build up fast around here, so if yours has gone past that, send it through anyway. We will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in Port Augusta without the hassle

Selling privately in Port Augusta means a small market. You list the car, wade through scam messages and wait for a serious buyer. That buyer may be driving in from Whyalla or Port Pirie, and still want to haggle once they arrive. Trading in often means a long trip to a bigger dealer.

When you sell your car to us, the inspection happens after you accept, at a time and place that suits you. The balance is paid into your bank account, and we arrange collection only after you confirm the funds have cleared. Still paying the car off? We deal with your lender directly and pay you any equity. Read about selling a car under finance. Moving away for work? Sell your car to us before you go.

Paperwork in South Australia

In South Australia, the seller lodges a free notice of disposal with Service SA within 14 days of the sale. Because we are a NSW-licensed dealer, your notice goes in on Service SA’s paper form, not online through mySAGOV. We prepare the sale paperwork, help with the transfer and make sure your notice of disposal is filled in correctly. Our guide to selling a car in South Australia has the detail, and selling a car in Australia covers the rest.

Across the gulf or down the highway? We also buy cars in Whyalla and Port Pirie. Call 1800 73 55 73 and sell your car to us.

What we are buying right now

Cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs of any make, 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less. Finance owing is fine. Older or higher-km car? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in South Australia

The practical side, so nothing catches you out. Rules change from time to time, so we confirm what applies to your car on the call.

Registration authority
Service SA, for the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, with stamp duty set by RevenueSA
Transfer of ownership
In South Australia, the seller lodges a free notice of disposal with Service SA within 14 days of the sale, and the buyer has 14 days to transfer the registration. The notice does not move the rego: with an SA buyer the car stays in your name until they transfer it, and with an interstate buyer Service SA records you as the last SA owner. Because we are a NSW-licensed dealer, your notice goes in on Service SA's paper form, not online through mySAGOV. We prepare the sale paperwork, help with the transfer of ownership and make sure your notice of disposal is filled in correctly.
Roadworthy certificate
Usually not needed. South Australia does not ask for a roadworthy certificate to transfer a registered car, so you usually do not need one when you sell to us. Service SA's change-of-ownership inspection is for some heavy vehicles and trailers, not an ordinary registered car. Rules differ by state, so we confirm what applies to your car on the call.
Good to know
The notice of disposal is free, and the transfer fee and stamp duty are the buyer's costs, so you pay none of them when you sell to us. Registration, including the CTP insurance that comes with it, stays with the car, and lodging your notice stops any rego direct debit. Keeping special plates? Swap to standard plates at a Service SA customer service centre before the sale, not after.

What to have ready

  • Photo ID
  • Registration papers
  • Service logbook and receipts for any recent work
  • Loan details, if the car is under finance
  • Bank account details for your payment

We prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership, so you do not have to chase forms.

Selling your car in Port Augusta: your questions

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.

Do you buy cars in Stirling North, Port Augusta West and Quorn?

Yes. We buy cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs in Port Augusta and the towns around it, including Port Augusta West, Stirling North, Davenport and Blanche Harbor, and out to Quorn, Hawker and Wilmington. We are a licensed dealer buying cars Australia-wide, so wherever you are at the top of the gulf, we can buy your car.

How does collection work from Port Augusta?

After you accept our offer, the inspection happens at a time and place that suits you, whether that is home in Stirling North or your workplace in town. The balance is paid into your bank account, and we arrange collection only after you confirm the funds have cleared. You never have to drive the car down to Adelaide.

Does my notice of disposal transfer the rego to you?

No. In South Australia the seller lodges a free notice of disposal with Service SA within 14 days of the sale, but the notice does not move the rego. With an interstate buyer like us, Service SA records you as the last SA owner. Because we are a NSW-licensed dealer, your notice goes in on Service SA's paper form, not online through mySAGOV. We prepare the sale paperwork, help with the transfer of ownership and make sure your notice is filled in correctly.

I live out at Roxby Downs or Woomera. Can you still buy my car?

Yes. We are a licensed dealer buying cars Australia-wide, so being a few hours up the Stuart Highway is not a problem. Tell us where the car is on the call. The inspection happens at a time and place that suits you, and we arrange collection only after you confirm the funds have cleared.

What cars are you buying right now?

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

When do I get paid?

Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.

Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?

Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.

We can buy your car in Port Augusta

Free and no obligation. If your car is 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less, we want to hear about it.
