Sell your car in Port Pirie

Step 1 of 3: your car

We buy cars all over Port Pirie

We buy cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs right across Port Pirie. That means Solomontown, Risdon Park, Port Pirie South and Port Pirie West, plus the farms around Warnertown, Napperby and Nelshaby. It also means the Mid North towns that look to Port Pirie, from Crystal Brook, Redhill and Port Broughton to Port Germein, Laura, Gladstone and Jamestown. Wherever the car is parked, we can buy your car.

We are licensed NSW motor dealer MD 077404 (Autohaus Australia Pty Ltd), and we buy cars Australia-wide. The business is run by a valuer who has priced cars since 1992. You get a genuine offer by phone, not an online estimate. We also buy cars up the gulf in Port Augusta, across the water in Whyalla and down the highway in Adelaide.

The cars we buy in Port Pirie

Port Pirie is a working town. Shift workers at the smelter and the port need a reliable car at odd hours. Grain growers across the Mid North run dual cabs on gravel roads and paddock tracks, usually with a tow bar, canopy or bull bar fitted. Families want a sensible SUV for school, sport and the long drive to Adelaide for appointments, flights and footy.

We buy late-model utes of every make, including the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max and Mazda BT-50. We buy family SUVs too. We are buying cars 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less. Older, or more kilometres? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in Port Pirie without the hassle

The private market in a regional city is smaller, so a listing can sit for a while. Buyers may drive up from Adelaide, then haggle once they arrive. Scam messages and fake payment receipts reach regional sellers too. Trading in is quicker, but the figure is tied to the next car the dealer sells you.

When you sell your car to us, there is no drive to the city. You accept the offer on the call, and a deposit is often paid the same day. The inspection follows, at a time and place that suits you. The balance is paid into your bank account, and we collect the car only after you confirm the funds have cleared. Still paying the car off? We deal with your lender directly and pay you any equity, so read about selling a car under finance. To see where you stand, start with a free valuation.

Paperwork in South Australia

In South Australia, the seller lodges a free notice of disposal with Service SA within 14 days of the sale, and the buyer has 14 days to transfer the registration. Because we are a NSW-licensed dealer, your notice goes in on Service SA’s paper form, not online through mySAGOV. We prepare the sale paperwork, help with the transfer and make sure your notice is filled in correctly.

A roadworthy certificate is usually not needed, because South Australia does not ask for one to transfer a registered car. Read our guide to selling a car in South Australia, or the guide to selling a car in Australia. Then call 1800 73 55 73 and sell your car to us.

What we are buying right now

Cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs of any make, 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less. Finance owing is fine. Older or higher-km car? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in South Australia

The practical side, so nothing catches you out. Rules change from time to time, so we confirm what applies to your car on the call.

Registration authority
Service SA, for the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, with stamp duty set by RevenueSA
Transfer of ownership
In South Australia, the seller lodges a free notice of disposal with Service SA within 14 days of the sale, and the buyer has 14 days to transfer the registration. The notice does not move the rego: with an SA buyer the car stays in your name until they transfer it, and with an interstate buyer Service SA records you as the last SA owner. Because we are a NSW-licensed dealer, your notice goes in on Service SA's paper form, not online through mySAGOV. We prepare the sale paperwork, help with the transfer of ownership and make sure your notice of disposal is filled in correctly.
Roadworthy certificate
Usually not needed. South Australia does not ask for a roadworthy certificate to transfer a registered car, so you usually do not need one when you sell to us. Service SA's change-of-ownership inspection is for some heavy vehicles and trailers, not an ordinary registered car. Rules differ by state, so we confirm what applies to your car on the call.
Good to know
The notice of disposal is free, and the transfer fee and stamp duty are the buyer's costs, so you pay none of them when you sell to us. Registration, including the CTP insurance that comes with it, stays with the car, and lodging your notice stops any rego direct debit. Keeping special plates? Swap to standard plates at a Service SA customer service centre before the sale, not after.

What to have ready

  • Photo ID
  • Registration papers
  • Service logbook and receipts for any recent work
  • Loan details, if the car is under finance
  • Bank account details for your payment

We prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership, so you do not have to chase forms.

Selling your car in Port Pirie: your questions

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.

Do you buy cars in Solomontown, Risdon Park and Crystal Brook?

Yes. We buy cars right across Port Pirie, including Solomontown, Risdon Park, Port Pirie South and Port Pirie West, and out to Crystal Brook, Port Broughton, Port Germein, Laura and Jamestown. We are a licensed NSW motor dealer buying cars Australia-wide, so wherever the car is parked, we can buy your car.

How does collection work from Port Pirie?

You accept our offer on the call, and a deposit is often paid the same day. The inspection happens after that, at a time and place that suits you, whether that is home in Risdon Park or a farm near Nelshaby. The balance is paid into your bank account, and we arrange collection only after you confirm the funds have cleared. You never have to drive the car to Adelaide.

What do I lodge with Service SA when I sell my car to you?

A notice of disposal. In South Australia, the seller lodges a free notice of disposal with Service SA within 14 days of the sale, and the buyer has 14 days to transfer the registration. Because we are a NSW-licensed dealer, your notice goes in on Service SA's paper form, not online through mySAGOV. We prepare the sale paperwork, help with the transfer of ownership and make sure your notice is filled in correctly.

Do you buy work utes from the smelter, the port and the farms?

Yes. Shift workers' utes and the dual cabs that work Mid North grain farms are exactly what we buy, as long as they are 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less. Mention the tow bar, canopy, bull bar or tool boxes on the call. Older or higher kilometres? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

What cars are you buying right now?

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

When do I get paid?

Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.

Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?

Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
