Sell your car in Airlie Beach

Step 1 of 3: your car

Your car

Free, no obligation Takes about a minute Paid before pickup

We buy cars all over Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach is the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands, and most locals live just around the bay in Cannonvale, Jubilee Pocket and Proserpine. Tourism and the marine trades keep the town busy. Whether your car sits outside a unit in Airlie, a house in Cannonvale or on acreage at Strathdickie, we buy your car.

We are a licensed motor dealer (MD 077404, Autohaus Australia Pty Ltd) buying cars Australia-wide, run by a valuer who has priced cars since 1992. You get a genuine offer by phone, not an online estimate. Ask for a free valuation, with no obligation and no fees taken out of the offer.

The cars we buy in Airlie Beach

Life here means towing. Boaties and marine tradies run the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, while families drive SUVs like the Toyota RAV4 and Kia Sportage. Tour operators and big families move people in the Kia Carnival. Some locals keep a convertible or a prestige car for the drive along Shute Harbour Road. Whatever you drive, we can buy your car.

Salt air, humidity and boat launches are hard on any vehicle. Tell us on the call if yours has towed a boat or lived by the water, so the offer is for the car you actually have. We buy cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs from 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less. Older, or more kilometres? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in Airlie Beach without the hassle

Airlie has a lot of people coming and going, and the private market shows it. Listings pile up when a season ends, buyers know sellers are in a hurry, and scam messages target anyone with a departure date. Trading in is quicker, but the offer comes from the dealer selling you the next car.

Sell your car to us and you keep control of the timing. We make an offer on the call. Once you accept, we pay a deposit, often the same day, and inspect the car at a time and place that suits you. The balance goes into your bank account, and we collect the car only after you confirm the funds have cleared. Still paying it off? We deal with your lender directly, so selling a car under finance works too. Heading overseas? Read about selling before you move overseas.

Paperwork in Queensland

In Queensland the seller starts the transfer. TMR says that after you sell, you must transfer the registration within 14 days, and the seller pays no fee. The buyer pays the transfer fee and vehicle registration duty. Until the transfer goes through, you remain liable for tolls and fines on a car still registered in your name. When you sell to us, we prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer.

A private buyer of a registered car is owed a current safety certificate. TMR exempts cars traded to licensed motor dealers, so that rule usually does not apply when you sell to us. We confirm what applies to your car on the call. See our guides to selling a car in Queensland and selling a car in Australia.

We also buy cars in Bowen and Mackay.

What we are buying right now

Cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs of any make, 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less. Finance owing is fine. Older or higher-km car? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in Queensland

The practical side, so nothing catches you out. Rules change from time to time, so we confirm what applies to your car on the call.

Registration authority
Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR)
Transfer of ownership
In Queensland the seller starts the transfer. TMR says that after you sell, you must transfer the registration within 14 days, and the seller pays no fee. The buyer pays the transfer fee and vehicle registration duty. Until the transfer goes through, you remain liable for tolls and fines on a car still registered in your name. When you sell to us, we prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer, so your part is done correctly.
Safety certificate
Usually not. Queensland's version of a roadworthy is the safety certificate, and a private buyer of a registered car is owed a current one. TMR exempts cars traded to licensed motor dealers, so when you sell to a licensed dealer the private-sale rule usually does not apply. We confirm what applies to your car on the call.
Good to know
Vehicle registration duty, Queensland's stamp duty on cars, is the buyer's cost, not yours. Compulsory third party (CTP) insurance is bundled with your Queensland rego. If you pay the rego by direct debit, TMR says to remove it so no payment comes out after you have sold the car.

What to have ready

  • Photo ID
  • Registration papers
  • Service logbook and receipts for any recent work
  • Loan details, if the car is under finance
  • Bank account details for your payment

We prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership, so you do not have to chase forms.

I was paid before Autohaus took possession of my car, which from my experience normally doesn’t happen.

Selling your car in Airlie Beach: your questions

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.

Do you buy cars in Cannonvale, Jubilee Pocket and Proserpine?

Yes. We buy cars in Airlie Beach and all around the bay, from Cannonvale, Jubilee Pocket and Shute Harbour to Strathdickie, Proserpine and Bloomsbury. We also buy along the coast at Conway Beach, Dingo Beach and Hydeaway Bay. Wherever the car is, we can buy your car. Call 1800 73 55 73 or fill in the form for a free valuation.

How does collection work from Airlie Beach?

You do not have to drive to Mackay or Townsville. After you accept our offer, we inspect the car at a time and place that suits you and pay a deposit, often the same day. The balance goes into your bank account. We arrange collection only after you confirm the funds have cleared.

Does Queensland's safety certificate rule apply when I sell to you?

Usually not. Queensland's version of a roadworthy is the safety certificate, and a private buyer of a registered car is owed a current one. TMR exempts cars traded to licensed motor dealers, so when you sell to a licensed dealer the private-sale rule usually does not apply. We confirm what applies to your car on the call.

I am leaving Airlie Beach soon. Can I sell my car before I go?

Yes. Plenty of people sell up here when a season, a contract or a lease ends. Call us early so the timing works for you. The offer is made by phone, the inspection happens at a time and place that suits you, and we collect the car only after you confirm the funds have cleared. If the car is still under finance, we deal with your lender directly and pay you any equity.

What cars are you buying right now?

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

When do I get paid?

Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.

Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?

Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
