Sell your car in Mount Isa

Step 1 of 3: your car

Your car

Free, no obligation Takes about a minute Paid before pickup

We buy cars all over Mount Isa

Mount Isa is a long way from anywhere, and Townsville is about 900 km east. There are fewer local buyers, and the nearest big dealer yards are a long way off. We can buy your car without you leaving town. Whether you live in Soldiers Hill, The Gap, Parkside or Healy, or out at Cloncurry or Camooweal, sell your car to us and we work around you.

We are a licensed motor dealer (MD 077404) buying cars Australia-wide, run by a valuer who has priced cars since 1992. You get a genuine offer over the phone, not an online estimate. Start with a free valuation and see how it works.

The cars we buy in Mount Isa

Mine country runs on utes and 4WDs. The heat, the red dust and the corrugated roads out to stations and mine sites mean most people here drive something tough. We buy late-model Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-MAX utes, and any other ute or SUV in good condition. Bull bars, long-range tanks, canopies, beacons and UHF radios are common here, so tell us what is fitted and what has come off.

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs from 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less. North West kilometres pile up fast. If yours has gone past that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in Mount Isa without the hassle

A private sale in a town this size means a small pool of buyers. The ones you do find may want to haggle hard or pay in a way you cannot easily check. Driving to Townsville to trade in is a very long round trip.

When you sell your car to us, you skip all that. After you accept, a deposit is often paid the same day, and we inspect the car at a time and place that suits you. The balance goes into your bank account, and the car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared. Still owe money on it? We deal with your lender directly and pay you any equity. Heading overseas when your contract ends? Read about selling before you move overseas.

We also buy cars in Townsville, Cairns and Emerald.

Paperwork in Queensland

The seller starts the transfer in Queensland. TMR says you must transfer the registration within 14 days of selling, and the seller pays no fee. The buyer covers the transfer fee and vehicle registration duty. Until the transfer goes through, tolls and fines on a car still registered in your name remain your responsibility. When you sell to us, we prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer, so your part is done correctly.

Queensland’s version of a roadworthy is the safety certificate, and a private buyer of a registered car is owed a current one. TMR exempts cars traded to licensed motor dealers, so that private-sale rule usually does not apply when you sell to us. We confirm what applies to your car on the call. Read our guide to selling a car in Queensland, or selling a car in Australia for the bigger picture.

What we are buying right now

Cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs of any make, 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less. Finance owing is fine. Older or higher-km car? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in Queensland

The practical side, so nothing catches you out. Rules change from time to time, so we confirm what applies to your car on the call.

Registration authority
Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR)
Transfer of ownership
In Queensland the seller starts the transfer. TMR says that after you sell, you must transfer the registration within 14 days, and the seller pays no fee. The buyer pays the transfer fee and vehicle registration duty. Until the transfer goes through, you remain liable for tolls and fines on a car still registered in your name. When you sell to us, we prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer, so your part is done correctly.
Safety certificate
Usually not. Queensland's version of a roadworthy is the safety certificate, and a private buyer of a registered car is owed a current one. TMR exempts cars traded to licensed motor dealers, so when you sell to a licensed dealer the private-sale rule usually does not apply. We confirm what applies to your car on the call.
Good to know
Vehicle registration duty, Queensland's stamp duty on cars, is the buyer's cost, not yours. Compulsory third party (CTP) insurance is bundled with your Queensland rego. If you pay the rego by direct debit, TMR says to remove it so no payment comes out after you have sold the car.

What to have ready

  • Photo ID
  • Registration papers
  • Service logbook and receipts for any recent work
  • Loan details, if the car is under finance
  • Bank account details for your payment

We prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership, so you do not have to chase forms.

Selling your car in Mount Isa: your questions

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.

Do you buy cars in Soldiers Hill, Pioneer and Cloncurry?

Yes. We buy cars across Mount Isa, from Soldiers Hill, Mornington and Parkside to Pioneer, Healy and Sunset, and out to Cloncurry, Camooweal and Julia Creek. Tell us where the car is, and after you accept our offer, the inspection happens at a time and place that suits you.

How does collection work from Mount Isa?

Distance does not change how we buy. We can price most cars from the details and a few photos, and the offer is made over the phone. After you accept, we pay a deposit, often the same day, and inspect the car at a time and place that suits you. The balance goes into your bank account, and we arrange collection only after you confirm the funds have cleared.

Who handles the rego transfer when I sell in Queensland?

In Queensland the seller starts the transfer. TMR says that after you sell, you must transfer the registration within 14 days, and you pay no fee to do it. The buyer pays the transfer fee and vehicle registration duty. Until the transfer goes through, you remain liable for tolls and fines on a car still registered in your name. When you sell to us, we prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer, so your part is done correctly.

I am leaving the Isa for work somewhere else. Can I sell before I go?

Yes, and it saves you driving or trucking the car across the country. Call us with your moving date and we plan the inspection and collection around it. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so start the sale with a little room before you leave town.

What cars are you buying right now?

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

When do I get paid?

Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.

Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?

Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
