Sell your car in Rockhampton

Step 1 of 3: your car

Your car

Free, no obligation Takes about a minute Paid before pickup

We buy cars all over Rockhampton

Rockhampton is cattle country, and plenty of vehicles here work hard for their owners. When it is time to sell, a private sale in Rocky can drag on. The pool of buyers is smaller than in Brisbane, the scam messages still arrive, and you have to be sure a payment is real before you hand over the keys.

You can skip all of that and sell your car to us. We are a licensed NSW motor dealer (MD 077404) buying cars Australia-wide, Central Queensland included. We can buy your car on the north side in Norman Gardens, Parkhurst, Kawana and Frenchville, or south of the river in Allenstown, Wandal, The Range and West Rockhampton. We buy cars in Gracemere and Mount Morgan, and out on the coast at Yeppoon, Emu Park and Zilzie. Further afield, we also buy cars in Gladstone and Emerald.

The cars we buy in Rockhampton

Station utes, tradie utes and 4WDs that tow the boat to the coast are everyday sights here. We buy your Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50 or LandCruiser. We buy family SUVs like the Toyota RAV4 and everyday sedans too. Our ute and 4WD page explains what we look for.

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs from 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less. Older or higher kilometres? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in Rockhampton without the hassle

A valuer who has priced cars since 1992 makes you a genuine offer by phone. It is not an online estimate. Once you accept, we pay a deposit, often the same day, and the inspection happens at a time and place that suits you. The balance goes into your bank account, and the car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared. See how it works for each step.

Thinking of trading in at a Rocky dealer? Compare first with our guide to selling your car instead of trading in. Still under finance? We deal with your lender directly and pay you any equity, as explained in selling a car under finance.

Paperwork in Queensland

In Queensland the seller starts the transfer. TMR says you must transfer the registration within 14 days of the sale, and you pay no fee. The buyer pays the transfer fee and vehicle registration duty. Until the transfer goes through, you remain liable for tolls and fines. When you sell to us, we prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer. Read more in selling a car in Queensland and selling a car in Australia.

What we are buying right now

Cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs of any make, 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less. Finance owing is fine. Older or higher-km car? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in Queensland

The practical side, so nothing catches you out. Rules change from time to time, so we confirm what applies to your car on the call.

Registration authority
Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR)
Transfer of ownership
In Queensland the seller starts the transfer. TMR says that after you sell, you must transfer the registration within 14 days, and the seller pays no fee. The buyer pays the transfer fee and vehicle registration duty. Until the transfer goes through, you remain liable for tolls and fines on a car still registered in your name. When you sell to us, we prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer, so your part is done correctly.
Safety certificate
Usually not. Queensland's version of a roadworthy is the safety certificate, and a private buyer of a registered car is owed a current one. TMR exempts cars traded to licensed motor dealers, so when you sell to a licensed dealer the private-sale rule usually does not apply. We confirm what applies to your car on the call.
Good to know
Vehicle registration duty, Queensland's stamp duty on cars, is the buyer's cost, not yours. Compulsory third party (CTP) insurance is bundled with your Queensland rego. If you pay the rego by direct debit, TMR says to remove it so no payment comes out after you have sold the car.

What to have ready

  • Photo ID
  • Registration papers
  • Service logbook and receipts for any recent work
  • Loan details, if the car is under finance
  • Bank account details for your payment

We prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership, so you do not have to chase forms.

Selling your car in Rockhampton: your questions

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.

1800 73 55 73
Do you buy cars in Gracemere, Norman Gardens and Yeppoon?

Yes. We buy cars on both sides of the Fitzroy, from Norman Gardens, Parkhurst and Frenchville to Allenstown, Wandal and The Range. We also buy cars in Gracemere and Mount Morgan, and on the Capricorn Coast at Yeppoon, Emu Park and Zilzie. The inspection happens at a time and place that suits you.

How does collection work from Rockhampton?

After you accept our offer, we pay a deposit, often the same day. The inspection happens at a time and place that suits you, whether that is a driveway in Wandal or a property outside town. The balance is paid into your bank account, and we arrange collection only after you confirm the funds have cleared.

Do I need a safety certificate to sell my car in Rockhampton?

Usually not. The safety certificate is Queensland's version of a roadworthy, and a private buyer of a registered car is owed a current one. TMR exempts cars traded to licensed motor dealers, so when you sell to a licensed dealer the private-sale rule usually does not apply. We confirm what applies to your car on the call.

Will you buy a ute that lives on a cattle property?

Yes, send it through. Station and farm utes are a big part of life in Central Queensland. Tell us on the call about the tray, toolboxes, bull bar or water tank, and be upfront about stone chips and scratches from gravel roads. If it is older than 2021 or has more than 100,000 km, we will tell you straight away if we can help.

What cars are you buying right now?

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

When do I get paid?

Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.

Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?

Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
