Sell your car in Grafton

We buy cars all over Grafton

Grafton is the jacaranda city on the Clarence River, and the valley around it stretches from the coast at Yamba to the hills past Nymboida. Selling a car privately here means a smaller pool of buyers, long drives for anyone serious, and the usual run of lowball offers and payment scams. A trade-in saves time, but you are negotiating with the dealer selling you the next car.

We can buy your car instead. We buy cars in South Grafton, Junction Hill, Clarenza and Waterview Heights, along the river at Ulmarra, Lawrence and Maclean, on the coast at Yamba, Iluka and Wooli, and out west at Copmanhurst and Glenreagh. We are a licensed NSW motor dealer, MD 077404, buying cars Australia-wide, and the business is run by a valuer who has priced cars since 1992.

The cars we buy in Grafton

The Clarence is cattle, cane and fishing country, and that means utes and 4WDs. We buy your Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-MAX or Mazda BT-50, and any other late-model ute with a towbar, tray or canopy. Families in town and around Yamba drive SUVs, and we buy those too.

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs from 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less. Older, or higher kilometres? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in Grafton without the hassle

Ask for a free valuation and you get a genuine offer by phone, not an online estimate. Accept it and we pay a deposit, often the same day. The inspection happens after you accept, at a time and place that suits you. The balance is paid into your bank account, and the car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared. No fees come out of the offer. See how it works for every step.

Still paying it off? We can buy your car under finance. We deal with your lender directly and pay you any equity.

We also buy cars in Coffs Harbour, Ballina and Armidale, so you can sell your car to us anywhere in northern NSW.

Paperwork in New South Wales

When you sell your car to us, you lodge a free notice of disposal with Service NSW, straight after the sale and within 14 days. You can do it online with a MyServiceNSW Account or on the paper form. Enter our dealer licence number, MD 077404, and Autohaus Australia Pty Ltd in place of a buyer’s licence. We prepare the sale paperwork and make sure your notice is done correctly, so you are not held responsible for fines after the sale.

What we are buying right now

Cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs of any make, 2021 or newer, with 100,000 km or less. Finance owing is fine. Older or higher-km car? Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away if we can help.

Selling a car in New South Wales

The practical side, so nothing catches you out. Rules change from time to time, so we confirm what applies to your car on the call.

Registration authority
Transport for NSW, through Service NSW
Transfer of ownership
In NSW the seller lodges a free notice of disposal with Service NSW within 14 days of the sale, and Service NSW says to do it immediately after you sell. You can lodge it online with a MyServiceNSW Account or on the paper form. When you sell to us, you enter our motor dealer licence number (MD 077404) and business name, Autohaus Australia Pty Ltd, in place of a buyer's licence. We prepare the sale paperwork and make sure your notice of disposal is done correctly, so you are not held responsible for parking or driving fines after the sale.
Roadworthy certificate
Usually nothing to book. Service NSW says you will not need a pink slip (safety inspection report) to transfer a current NSW registration. Pink slips are a yearly check at rego renewal for most light vehicles more than 5 years old, counted from the compliance plate date. If the rego expired more than 3 months ago, the car needs a blue slip (AUVIS inspection) before it can be registered again. We confirm what applies to your car on the call.
Good to know
In NSW the buyer pays the transfer fee and any stamp duty, so neither comes out of your offer when you sell to us. Your CTP green slip moves to the new owner automatically with the registration. On the day the car goes, take out your e-tag and delete the plate from your toll account. Want to keep personalised plates? Swap them for general plates before the sale.

What to have ready

  • Photo ID
  • Registration papers
  • Service logbook and receipts for any recent work
  • Loan details, if the car is under finance
  • Bank account details for your payment

We prepare the sale paperwork and help with the transfer of ownership, so you do not have to chase forms.

Selling your car in Grafton: your questions

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call us and ask.

Do you buy cars in South Grafton, Maclean and Yamba?

Yes. We buy cars in Grafton, South Grafton, Junction Hill and Clarenza, down the river at Ulmarra, Lawrence, Maclean, Yamba and Iluka, and out west at Copmanhurst, Coutts Crossing and Nymboida. Tell us where the car is on the call. The inspection happens at a time and place that suits you, and we arrange collection once your funds have cleared.

How does collection work from Grafton?

You do not need to drive the car to Coffs Harbour or further. We make a genuine offer by phone, and once you accept we pay a deposit, often the same day. The inspection happens at your home, property or work at a time that suits you. The balance is paid into your bank account, and we arrange collection only after you confirm the funds have cleared.

My rego has lapsed. What do I need to know before I sell?

Tell us on the call. Service NSW says you will not need a pink slip, the safety inspection report, to transfer a current NSW registration. Pink slips are a yearly check at rego renewal for most light vehicles more than 5 years old, counted from the compliance plate date. If the rego expired more than 3 months ago, the car needs a blue slip (AUVIS inspection) before it can be registered again. We confirm what applies to your car on the call.

Can I sell a ute that tows the boat or works on the farm?

Yes. Utes around Grafton tow boats to Yamba and Iluka, cart feed on cattle properties and work the cane farms of the lower Clarence. Tell us on the call what is fitted, such as a towbar, canopy, tray or bull bar, so the offer reflects the ute you actually have. We are buying 2021 or newer with 100,000 km or less, and if yours has done more, send it through anyway.

What cars are you buying right now?

We are buying cars, utes, SUVs and 4WDs built in 2021 or later with 100,000 km or less. Any make is welcome, and we have strong demand for European and prestige models, dual-cab utes and family SUVs. If your car sits just outside that, send it through anyway and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

When do I get paid?

Once we agree on a price, we can often pay a deposit the same day. After an inspection, the balance is paid into your bank account by bank transfer. The car is collected only after you confirm the funds have cleared, so you are never left without the car and without the money.

Can I sell my car if I still owe money on it?

Yes. We deal with your lender directly to pay out the loan, then pay you any equity left over. Cars under finance usually take 2 to 3 business days to settle. If you owe more than the car is worth, the difference has to be covered before settlement, and we show you the numbers before you decide.
